Thom_Wolf maps why AI leaders who fear AI still race to build it; Manning flags their hubris

ThomWolf (of BLOOM fame) published a piece collecting the main arguments behind the apparent disconnect of leaders like Dario, Sam, and Elon: they believe AI is a massive danger yet keep pushing the capability frontier. He notes these figures have voiced worries for over a decade — Sam Altman called superhuman machine intelligence possibly the greatest threat as early as Feb 2015.
Stanford professor Christopher Manning endorsed the piece as calm and well-reasoned, but argued it underacknowledges their intellectual hubris: believing they alone can do the right thing while almost no one else can or will.
