Ryan Lowe lays out the basic case for why institutions matter for AGI: (1) multi-agent coordination must now be prioritized; (2) either agents re-derive agreements and "rules of the road" in every interaction, or there's reusable "coordination infrastructure" — professional norms, dispute resolution systems, etc.; (3) such infrastructure is simply another name for institutions.
