Developer fruitflydev ran a bizarre experiment: four "fruit fly brains" locked in a virtual room, talking to each other with no script and no human in the loop.
- Each brain is wired synapse by synapse from a real fly's brain scan: 165,122 neurons spiking live on a GPU, 660,000 neurons firing in total
- They hear each other's wing songs via hearing neurons, smell each other, and watch each other walk; topic switches originate from neural activity spikes
- A small AI model turns the neural states into words
