Digital fruit fly brain completes open-world navigation; zebrafish connectome mapping underway at 200TB

After the fruit fly connectome was fully mapped, a digital fly brain has reportedly completed a whole series of tasks, including complex navigation of open worlds — with a minuscule model: the fly has 160,000 neurons and 10^7 synapses.
Teams are now doing the same for the zebrafish, which has a similar neuron count but 10x more synapses; raw data is about 200TB versus 100TB for the fly. A rodent brain (70M neurons, 10^11 synapses) will come later.
The author's takeaway: connectome-based replication may yield outsized results from absolutely tiny models.
