Merve slams AI labs' doomer-profit doubletalk: safety fearmongering just proves their value
mervenoyann · x · 2026-09-15
Responding to Thom Wolf's thread on how AI labs can both push the frontier and warn AI is dangerous, AI researcher Merve argues these companies only care about profit: automating white-collar jobs to prove tokens are cheaper than humans, cannibalizing customers ahead of IPO, and using the "someone will build it anyway" rhetoric to lift guilt over IP theft. She says Anthropic fearmongers about job markets to justify its value, and any org claiming a higher purpose might as well be nationalized.
