Researcher Nina Schick argues Europe fails to grasp that it must bargain for access to frontier AI: its models have little chance of catching up, compute buildout is far too small, and energy woes compound the problem. From hardware to software, compute, energy and security guarantees, Europe depends on the American stack, making 'sovereign AI' unrealistic while relying on China is worse. Daniel Kokotajlo adds that Europe needs to face the AGI horizon and negotiate an international agreement ASAP, since its leverage shrinks each year as the singularity approaches.
