Anthropic, DeepMind Safety Researchers Join Independent Evaluator METR

Joe Benton, former lead of Anthropic's Scalable Oversight team, and Josh Engels from Google DeepMind both joined METR, the independent AI risk assessment org. Benton reportedly pushes for mandatory disclosure of recursive self-improvement progress — even as Anthropic, OpenAI and Google discuss an industry-led standards body.
