US's No.2 law firm Latham & Watkins builds in-house AI stack with Nvidia servers

Latham & Watkins, the second-largest US law firm with $8.3B in annual revenue, is building an internal AI stack: buying Nvidia servers it controls, fine-tuning open-weight models, and restricting access to employees only.

The argument: law firms hold decades of contracts, negotiations and client context they won't hand over to OpenAI or Anthropic for expensive tokens — or risk having that data train frontier models. Highly regulated professional services may accelerate the shift to self-hosted AI, a potential headwind for API-based business models.
