Oracle cuts teams by double digits while hiring aggressively for AI and data centers
NinaDSchick · x · 2026-09-14
Reports say some Oracle teams were hit with double-digit percentage layoffs this morning, yet over the last 90 days the company has been hiring heavily on the AI/data-center side: data-center construction, power infrastructure, network reliability, senior mechanical engineering, AI/ML, AI data-center delivery, demand planning, and data-center operations.
Many new hires come straight from cloud rivals: a technical program manager and a principal finance hire from AWS (EC2 Core Finance), plus a data-center support engineer, a lead mechanical engineer, and even a senior manufacturing/process engineer poached from Microsoft, including its critical-environment operations. The contrast suggests Oracle is shifting resources from traditional business toward AI compute infrastructure.
