VRChat Says Maine Data Breach Notice Was a Hoax Filed by Unknown Third Party
MoldyMagnet · x · 2026-09-14
A data breach notice against VRChat posted by the Maine AG's office on June 11 triggered widespread coverage — but VRChat says it never filed anything. The notice was submitted by an unknown third party using fake company letterhead and a nonexistent person's contact info. It stayed up for hours before removal, and the Maine AG has since labeled the filings hoaxes. VRChat states it has no reason to believe its systems were compromised.
