AI safety researcher Joshua Saxe wagered with Halvar Flake that an uncontrolled AI botnet/worm will appear on the internet within 18 months. He argues a worm could propagate purely through social engineering, known exploits, and credential stuffing before generating new exploits, and could hide inside the $100B+ spent annually on inference compute.
