Defending astra for robotics: availability matters more than speed, researcher argues

Zergylord · x · 2026-09-14

Responding to researchers dismissing "astra for robotics" hype as a fad — not built for low-level control, slower than WAMs/VLAs — the author argues they miss the point: everyone knows demo videos are sped up 50x, and it's too expensive for repeated real use, but it can already do many valuable slow tasks, prices will drop and speed improve within 6-12 months, and crucially anyone can start using it in minutes. Physical AI labs should copy this "ship it early" approach.
