David Patterson: AI will hit the limit of intelligence by 2030, never surpass human understanding

Turing Award-winning computer architect David Patterson argues AI will reach the limit of intelligence by 2030 — and will never do anything beyond human understanding.

His reasoning: fear of AI assumes unlimited intelligence, but the universe itself is finite. What matters isn't raw intelligence but the information space it operates in. Once AI can solve every solvable problem and answer every answerable question, higher intelligence has no practical meaning — and nothing in that space is beyond human comprehension. Evidence, he says, is that humans easily understand solutions once AI finds them.
