Anthropic picks Nasdaq for IPO as soon as October, aiming to top SpaceX's $86.3B record

Bloomberg reports that Anthropic—days after Dario Amodei called on the AI industry to hit the brakes—is accelerating its IPO: Nasdaq as the listing venue, as early as October, with a raise meant to rival or exceed SpaceX's record $86.3B US IPO from June. Reports suggest a valuation target around $2 trillion.
The fundraising arc has been vertical: a $61.5B post-money valuation in March 2025 rose to $965B after a $65B Series H in May 2026—nearly 16x in 14 months, overtaking OpenAI's $852B. The engine is Anthropic's coding-driven business: ARR passed $65B by late July, up more than 7x since year-end, versus just $1B in early 2025. Still cash-hungry, with a $100B+ decade-long AWS commitment, TPU expansion with Google/Broadcom, and SpaceX compute clusters all draining capital.
Adding irony: after reposting Amodei's safety blog, Sam Altman told Fortune that going public now would be unwise—despite earlier reporting that OpenAI never planned to list this year, effectively seizing the safety-minded narrative.
