US Senator Bernie Sanders has proposed legislation that would impose prison sentences of up to 20 years on AI developers who push ahead with artificial superintelligence (ASI) plans, a penalty on par with illegally developing rogue nuclear weapons, according to Tom's Hardware. The proposal treats ASI development as a weapon-of-mass-destruction-scale risk, making it one of the harshest AI legislative proposals to date.
