smolvm v1.16 adds incremental checkpoints: git-like time travel for agents, 10x faster branching
LoganGrasby · x · 2026-09-14
smol machines released smolvm v1.16.0 (6k stars on GitHub) with one major feature: incremental checkpoints, enabling agents to efficiently time travel through the history of a computer like git. Branching and checkpointing become 10x faster after the initial checkpoint. The release also fixes forgetting externally deleted machines in the API supervisor, scoped memory, UID-isolated checkpoints, and VM restart safety.
