Enterprise AI costs 10-20x traditional systems; private cloud may win big
DavidLinthicum · x · 2026-09-13
Veteran enterprise architect David Linthicum shares the math from his Cloud Computing Insider podcast: AI systems run 10-20x the cost of traditional systems, and moving sustained 24/7 workloads onto hyperscalers can cost six to seven times older cloud solutions. He argues hyperscalers are great for pilots and POCs (hourly billing, no commitment), but once you productionize, the economics turn against you fast — making private cloud potentially the smartest AI infrastructure decision this year.
