$39 Open-Source JetKVM Mini Launches: The Cheapest Way to Give AI Agents Below-OS Machine Control

cheerfulboy · reddit · 2026-09-13

JetKVM announced the Mini, a matchbox-sized KVM-over-IP box built on an ESP32-P4 with hardware H.264 encoding: $39 wired, $42 with Wi-Fi 6 (cheaper in 3-packs), shipping October 26, with open-source firmware at launch.

Capabilities: captures 1080p from any HDMI output, controls keyboard/mouse via a web UI, mounts ISOs, does Wake-on-LAN, and exposes an open API.

Why it matters for agents: every "computer use" agent today runs inside the OS and dies at a BIOS screen, login prompt, or crashed installer. A KVM sees what the monitor sees and types what a keyboard types, so an agent driving one could reinstall an OS or recover a hung GPU box with zero software on the target. The announcement never mentions AI, but at this price with an open API it's an obvious building block for physical-layer agent control.
