L3Harris: Palantir helped fine-tuned open models beat frontier AI in under 2 days at 95% lower cost

L3Harris says that with Palantir's help it fine-tuned open source models on proprietary data and outperformed frontier models in under 48 hours, at 95% lower cost.

"AI is a commodity. It's all about the data" — the defense contractor frames its data as a corporate asset and argues US defense companies should not become vassals of frontier AI labs, renting back intelligence built on their own knowledge. It wants to own the model, compute, and data outright.

A quoted reply argues that the regulatory push Anthropic has led — and that SpaceX and OpenAI now appear to endorse — aims to make this kind of deployment functionally illegal through an onerous compliance regime.
