Google Research, working with HHMI Janelia and the broader scientific community, has mapped the complete brain and central nervous system of an adult male fruit fly for the first time. Using AI to combine millions of 2D images into 3D neural shapes, researchers reconstructed a record-breaking 166,000+ neurons — a foundational resource expected to accelerate neuroscience. The original poster also built a playful demo letting the fly compete with you at darts.
