Jason: Frontier labs' regulation push is about losing tokens to open source
kevinnbass · x · 2026-09-13
Jason Calacanis publicly challenges Dario Amodei: all regulations floated by frontier model companies must be viewed through the lens of them losing tokens to open-source models. He argues the timing of regulatory proposals lines up with open source closing the capability gap and Nvidia going all-in on open source over the last 60 days. His counter-proposal: if we're going to regulate, require last year's frontier models and weights be open-sourced. A pointed entry in the regulatory-capture-vs-safety debate.
