Robert Scoble argues San Francisco is a 'cult town' and open source means freedom, but admits the latest OpenAI and Anthropic models remain better for coding critical things. Open source developers are 'working hard to catch up' an exponentially learning system, so nerds must collaborate to keep big companies from taking the whole pie. He also quotes a thread alleging that the push to spook Congress into regulating AI is driven by people affiliated with Coefficient, Open Philanthropy, Anthropic, and/or OpenAI, who benefit financially from regulation.
