Guardian data for its 2027 University Guide shows AI denting UK graduate prospects: the share of computer science graduates landing coder/programmer jobs fell from 40% to 28% last year, and those entering any graduate-level role dropped from over 60% to 50%. Coding and software development were the fastest-falling occupations, while employer demand for economics graduates in well-paid finance roles also declined. Compiler Matt Hiely-Rayner says AI's cheap, responsive grunt work is directly hitting entry-level software labor, while Nordic/EU firms bet on adaptable, multilingual talent.
