Qiaochu Yuan recommends qntm's sci-fi story 'Lena', which fictionalizes MMAcevedo — the first executable human brain image (974.3PiB, later losslessly compressed to 6.75TiB) — and its exploitation as copies of a person are bought, run and traded. Quoting it, xlr8harder notes the fly connectome experiments people now play with are 'kind of horrifying' precisely because nothing suggests this work stops even as conscious systems become more plausible.
