Ex-Anthropic/OpenAI researcher: AI may replace humans in much research within a year

Jacob Coxon, a former Anthropic and OpenAI researcher who resigned, told CNN that AI progress in coding and math has gone from assisting humans a few years ago to nearly replacing them now.
- He claims that "quite plausibly, within a year, we'll no longer need humans for doing research in many areas," citing OpenAI's fully autonomous AI solution to a millennium math problem.
- His biggest fear is recursive self-improvement: giving AI the task of AI research itself, triggering an intelligence explosion where AI grows smarter with no human involvement — and he believes this could come very soon.
