A new University of Pennsylvania course, CIS 6280 · World Models, argues world models — learning from observing and interacting with the world — are AI's next big bet beyond LLMs, and that no systematic course existed, so they built one. Topics span representation learning, generative models, simulation, model-based RL, video and 3D generation, robotics world models, reasoning, and code-based world models. Students build an environment, train a world model, learn a policy, and finish with a leaderboard research project. Six lectures in, all slides, demos, and readings are public.
