MIRI-style AI safety views attacked: doomsday rhetoric framed as power grab
repligate · x · 2026-09-12
An X debate over the MIRI school of AI safety: a repost claims some MIRI-aligned people sincerely believe existential risk is imminent and that the only safe response is an authoritarian one-world government run by a council of 'hyperrationalists'.
A quoted reply goes further, arguing the AI Safety community is incentivized to play up mass extinction scenarios to embed itself, unelected, between the state and its constituents, effectively controlling much of international relations.
