GPT-6 Astra builds its own chess engine, hits ~1800-2000 ELO and stays unbeaten
MikePFrank · x · 2026-09-12
Mike Frank vibe-coded a chess interface with Astra that lets you chat with the AI during play and save/share interactive replays. Astra was allowed to build its own Python tactical engine (positional evals, mating proofs) but no external resources. After refinement the setup reached roughly 1800-2000 ELO against bots, and nobody has beaten the GPT-6 Astra setup yet—a limited public beta is open to challengers.
