No used market means no loans: orderly liquidation value blocks robot financing
antavedissian · x · 2026-09-12
Lenders price equipment by orderly liquidation value (OLV) — what they'd recover if they repossessed it. A Toyota forklift has a known OLV; a new robot brand without a used market mostly doesn't. Quoting @jimbelosic: financing industrial equipment (CNC machines, forklifts, compressors) hinges on secondary-market liquidity — a Kaeser compressor is financeable, a cheap Shenzhen one is a non-starter.
