UK thinktank urges taxing robotaxis, claiming up to £46bn a year

Uber and Wayve launched driverless rides in London last week, with Waymo close behind. A report from the Centre for British Progress flags three risks: 417,000 taxi/private hire jobs in England threatened, worse congestion (California Waymos drive empty half the time), and a £27bn/year fuel-duty hole EV taxes won't fill. It proposes a small AV charge raising up to £46bn a year for infrastructure, transit and driver retraining — and argues legislation is easier before robotaxis scale. Wayve says it would "penalise the UK's most promising innovators."
