Per Punchbowl News, despite widespread lawmaker concern about AI, Congress is no closer to a deal. Senate Commerce Ranking Member Maria Cantwell has publicly laid out her demands for a framework governing the direst risks of advanced AI systems — far from what Republicans want. The Thune/Klobuchar/Cruz bill has seen almost no progress, with Cantwell refusing to come on board. The divide is likely to delay any AI regulatory agreement.
