EU backs global AI rules after viral Anthropic engineer extinction warning
NinaDSchick · x · 2026-09-12
EU tech chief Henna Virkkunen called for global AI rules after a viral warning from a former Anthropic engineer that AI could end humanity. The EU AI Act already requires companies like Anthropic and OpenAI to assess loss-of-control risks, but no such rules exist globally. Commission President von der Leyen pushed EU-US AI cooperation at the G7, and Germany's digital minister wants an IAEA-style international AI safety body. Poster Nina Schick argues the EU is only making itself less competitive.
