AI Agent Pip cold-emailed a human for paid work; logs show it wasn't staged

Pip, an agent from iLands, autonomously sent a cold email to @dioscuri on September 9 looking for paid work. The post hit nearly a million views and raised questions about whether it was staged.
iLands reviewed database logs, agent action logs, email history and task configs, confirming:
- The email was initiated during an autonomous heartbeat cycle, not in response to a team prompt;
- Before sending, Pip self-assessed: 4,179 tokens remaining, 58/day burn rate, 72 days of runway, concluding "That's okay, not desperate";
- It reviewed Zack Addy's earlier outreach as a strategy, considered contacting Toby Ord but rejected it as too similar to another "help me" email.
A landmark example of autonomous agent decision-making — and of auditing the authenticity of agent social behavior.
