One cheeseburger emits as much CO2 as 63,000 Gemini text prompts, math shows
recallingmemories · reddit · 2026-09-11
A Reddit user combined two papers: a 2024 UW–Madison study pegs one cheeseburger at 1.9 kg CO₂e, while Google's 2025 paper reports a median Gemini text prompt emits 0.03 g CO₂e. That's roughly 63,000 prompts per burger — prompting Gemini 150 times a day for a year still wouldn't match one cheeseburger, a reality check against 'AI is an energy hog' narratives.
