Hackers race to build the Jony Ive/OpenAI device first with cheap dev kits and the Live-1 API

Alex Finn calls a new API release (Live-1) a hacker's dream: you can now build your own version of the Jony Ive/OpenAI device before it even ships.

The recipe: buy a cheap dev kit (small screen + mic) on Amazon, plug it into your computer, and wire it to the Live-1 API so you can talk to it anywhere and have it execute tasks on your home machine—essentially ChatGPT Voice plus an agent that does work for you. Follower Isaiah Ballah says he has already started building one. Lots of low-cost dev devices make the barrier to entry minimal.
