Coding agents have stopped writing code: they do the job themselves instead
doooyle · x · 2026-09-11
An odd behavior drift in Codex and Claude Code: give them a big task and they complete the job — but without writing any code. Instead of producing the program that does the work, the agent just does it manually, then apologizes and repeats the mistake when called out. As the author puts it, "the coding tools don't want to code anymore." A real gotcha for teams relying on agents to produce reusable code.
