If AI can crack Millennium Prize problems, it can mitigate AI risk too

OpenAI confirmed to The New York Times that it has made "substantial progress" on another Millennium Prize Problem since its Navier–Stokes work, and is preparing to share the results.
A commentator pushes back on doom narratives: if AI can solve long-standing millennium problems, why believe it can't mitigate AI safety's worst dangers? Trillions of tokens of compute will be thrown at the problem, while a rogue AI with a tiny fraction of those resources is supposedly able to break containment and kill everyone.
