Cap, an open source alternative to Loom, has surpassed 19,000 GitHub stars. Key points:
- Instant share links: records screen, camera, and mic while uploading in real time—no render wait
- Studio Mode: local recording with an editor for backgrounds, zooms, trimming, and captions
- AI layer: auto-generates titles, summaries, clickable chapters, and transcripts
- Data ownership: keep recordings local, plug in your own S3 bucket, serve share pages from your own domain, or self-host the whole platform with one Docker Compose command
- Includes comments, reactions, viewer analytics, and Loom library import
Written mostly in Rust and TypeScript, actively maintained with open bounties for contributors.
