The US made roughly 40% of the world's PCBs in the early 1980s; by 2023 that share had shrunk to about 4%.

The author built an interactive atlas that traces an actual SparkFun RedBoard back to its copper, resin, and solder mask sources, mapping them to representative factories that have produced these components worldwide since the 1980s — a visual record of the PCB supply chain's global migration.
