Stripe SaaS Index: SaaS growth accelerated through the $1T SaaSpocalypse, dubbed RenaiSaaS
jeff_weinstein · x · 2026-09-10
Stripe's economics team, led by Ernie Tedeschi, launched the Stripe SaaS Index — a weekly same-business measure of non-AI SaaS revenue health covering 72,000 businesses per week in 2026.
- Context: early 2026 saw $1T (possibly $2T including subsequent weeks) wiped from enterprise software valuations over fears AI would erode SaaS business models — the "SaaSpocalypse"
- The index shows SaaS growth actually accelerated through the sell-off, with younger companies showing especially strong momentum
- SaaS equities have since returned to roughly pre-crash levels; Stripe dubs it a "RenaiSaaS"
Being weekly and same-business, the index picks up industry shifts before quarterly filings.
