Ex-OpenAI VP Miles Brundage on P(Doom): even 1% would be deeply unacceptable
Miles_Brundage · x · 2026-09-10
Former OpenAI VP of Safety Systems Miles Brundage says he was never a big P(Doom) person, but went on record:
- Many informed people in industry think the real risk is well above 10%
- Even 1% would be super unacceptable
- Many things could substantially decrease whatever the real number is — the focus should be on doing them
His point: shift energy from debating the number to executing risk-reduction work.
