Apple Watch's new always-listening audio intelligence features and their privacy design

The new Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 ship with four opt-in "audio intelligence" tools powered by the microphone: sound and music recognition, conversation recap, and "Live Rewind" for transcribing the previous 15 seconds of ambient speech.
- Apple stresses the features don't create or store recordings; raw audio is inaccessible to the OS, apps, users, and Apple itself.
- Processing happens on-device wherever possible, reusing Apple Intelligence/Siri privacy infrastructure.
- WIRED notes that despite the safeguards, the mere fact of always-listening tools marks how AI audio intelligence is becoming ubiquitous in computing.
