Meta's Muse agent is being oversold: 'can buy' is four steps, and only two are done

KamilKad · reddit · 2026-09-10

Meta's Muse launch is being compressed into 'AI agents can now buy from Shopify stores,' but that skips four states: agent announced, product data access, completed payment flow, and merchant-attributed order. As of Sept 9, primary sources only confirm Muse rolling out in the US with Link payments (Shop Pay 'coming soon'), Stripe issuing Link-scoped single-use virtual cards, and Shopify enabling direct checkout on Meta surfaces for eligible US stores. 'Direct checkout on Meta surfaces' does not prove Shop Pay is live inside Muse for every store. The author lists the full chain any shopping-agent builder should log before calling it production-ready: exact surface and market, SKU and variant, price/currency/stock at decision time, payment approval event, merchant order ID, and attribution/cancellation/refund state.
