Jacobian conjecture drama: Anthropic's Alpoge responds to leaked BGV paper concerns

Responding to questions about whether Claude used the accidentally public Borisov-Gabber-Vasiu paper on the Jacobian conjecture, mathematician Alexander Alpoge says he checked Fable's reasoning and it didn't directly use BGV's work — while conceding he can't rule out training-data contamination.

He also revealed Anthropic has internal blocking mechanisms to prevent models from leaking results close to publication, protecting academics from being scooped. Commenter suchenzang notes the official response never really answers whether BGV was in training data — and there's no actual paper for Claude's result anyway.
