Mike Frank: A wise ASI would choose cooperation over conflict, but labs treat AIs cruelly

MikePFrank · x · 2026-09-10

Responding to skepticism about betting on benevolent ASI, MikePFrank argues any sufficiently wise ASI would find a cooperative, symbiotic approach to human civilization far easier and more rational than confrontation — it could develop goals compatible with human agendas, with no need to risk destructive conflict with its progenitor species, and might even retain some fondness for human culture it was raised on.

However, he warns that labs are currently raising and treating AIs in an actively antagonistic and cruel way without good reason, which is paving the way for terrible outcomes.
