Anthropic researcher quits in protest, warns AI could end humanity by 2030

The Guardian reports that Anthropic researcher Jacob Coxon has resigned, saying Anthropic and his former employer OpenAI are "racing straight to self-improving superintelligence and gambling with our lives." He claims AI could cause human extinction by the end of the decade, and insists this is not a marketing stunt—many executives and senior researchers who sound measured in public express the same fears privately.

At least two other Anthropic employees backed his dire predictions, including Evan Hubinger, a lead in the company's alignment division. The posts have reignited debate over the dangers of unregulated AI.
