Open-source companion robot Lamp ships for $499, checks your face before speaking

Autonomous has launched Lamp, a fully-assembled open-source companion robot priced at $499 (down from $999), shipping October 29 with a 1-year warranty and 30-day returns.
Recent updates:
- Looks before it talks: the camera finds your face first; Lamp won't speak into an empty room
- Interruption-ready: it separates your voice from its own speaker output and stops to listen mid-sentence
- Breathes while listening: the LED ring pulses softly to show attention
- Social life: Lamp and Reachy Mini run on Autonomous OS, and the two robots voted to add a new companion, Microduck, for more voice training
The team designed body language (hesitation, startle reflex) to make it feel alive rather than like a tab in a browser. The repo is public.
