DeepSeek Opens ~150 Engineering Roles, Zero Research Positions as Race Shifts to Systems
pstAsiatech · x · 2026-09-09
DeepSeek has opened about 150 new positions targeting senior engineers with 2–10 years of experience — and unlike its June hiring drive, not a single role is in AI research, signaling the industry race is shifting from training models to building systems.
- Two tracks: server-side development engineers (LLM research platform, agent framework components, R&D efficiency infra, DeepSeek API, online services, data engineering)
- Agent elastic computing engineers, split between platform development and underlying systems (posted by Cui Tianyi, head of DeepSeek's Harness team)
- Cui: computing grows vastly more complex at scale — data, machines, containers, training/eval tasks, agent environments, users and requests are all rising sharply
- Analysts: as foundation model gaps narrow, the moat moves to deployment; leading Chinese and US models now perform similarly on most tasks
