Mac MCP 2.0 open-sources 81 tools giving AI agents local macOS control and background browser automation
bulutarkan · reddit · 2026-09-09
Developer bulutarkan released Mac MCP 2.0 (MIT), a local macOS MCP server exposing 81 tools for trusted AI clients: shell/files, Safari and Chrome automation, macOS Accessibility/UI control, persistent memory, Agent Skills, voice input, delegated Codex/OpenCode agents, and a localhost-only operations dashboard with a native SwiftUI menu-bar controller.
The standout feature is background browser automation: tabs get stable handles so an agent can observe and interact with a Safari tab without stealing focus. Security is treated explicitly as powerful local access — auth is optional, the dashboard stays loopback-only, and the author recommends exposing it only to trusted clients. Feedback is requested on permission UX: per-tool approvals, reusable permission profiles, or read-only sessions. Repo: github.com/bulutarkan/mac-mcp
