Dev Drops Plan Mode and MCP, Finds Agents Prefer Authenticated CLIs
andfanilo · x · 2026-09-09
Tool author andfanilo describes his evolving agent workflow: he stopped using plan mode (replaced by Matt Pocock's 'grill-me' prompting) and MCP, since agents handle authenticated CLI clients well on their own.
Following that philosophy, he tried pidotdev's coding tool, which ships without either but makes integrating any other extension easy — and says he finally gets the appeal.
Takeaway: rather than stacking orchestration layers on agents, let them drive existing authenticated CLIs directly and keep the extension surface open.
